Christmas Day

ADVENT 2025

Scripture

Hebrews 1:1-12 ~ Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs. For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”? Or again, “I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son”? And again, when he brings the firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.” Of the angels he says, “He makes his angels winds, and his ministers a flame of fire.” But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.” And, “You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; they will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment, like a robe you will roll them up, like a garment they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end.”

Reflection

This is a beautiful Christmas message as we stand in hope and wonder on Christmas day.

Our journey in the first chapter of Hebrews speaks from eternity to eternity, about who Jesus is to believers long ago and now in these last days. I find great hope and comfort to know Jesus, the Word, was there in the beginning and created all things. I find joy knowing that it is my Savior, God’s only Son, Heir to the kingdom, that is holding all creation together. I have hope knowing that all of time and creation are in His merciful and loving hands.

I think of all the angels that witnessed to the shepherds that Holy Night. Worshipping and singing of His glory and love, His power and might, His gentleness and patience towards all His creation. Angels are spoken of here as the companions of God’s Son now: “He makes his angels winds and his ministers a flame of fire.” How he loves them, too.

The Son has been exalted to sit at God’s right hand in heaven. He alone is the Son of God.

As spoken through the prophets of old, the Son is the Hope of salvation to come for God’s people. Heaven and earth will perish; Jesus has prepared salvation through His unfailing love.

Come Jesus come. Come into all hearts in these blessed days.

Prayer

Lord, Thank you for coming down to earth to save us and bring us home to heaven. Thank you for your steadfast love through the ages and the ages to come. Guide our hearts and minds as we share this hope with others. Help us to be examples to others of your kindness and patience. May your Holy Spirit comfort and guide us as we wait to see you again. Hear our prayers for Jesus’ sake, and in His name, we pray, Amen.
